Tanner Babcock's Guarantee to Users of This Website
- This website will never bother you with advertisements of any kind. This operation is completely self-funded, for the benefit of my friends and visitors. I do not make any money from this website, and, after a lifetime of browsing a diverse array of different websites, I realized that this is the best way to serve fast, reliable, and quality content.
- There is no paid content here, only honest content. All of these opinions, commentaries, and statements of mine are 100% honest. I understand the irony of asking anyone to take a statement like that at face value, but I publish my own thoughts and opinions, and no one else's. The album and film reviews here have not in any way been influenced by marketing campaigns or donations from record labels.
- This website respects your privacy, and doesn't burden you with trackers or third-party cookies. While I do collect generic anonymous data about page visits for my site (IP address, user agent, page, and referral), this data is routinely cleared out. I do not force the visitors of this site to load any scripts from Google or any other advertising company.
Who are you?
I am Tanner Babcock. I'm a professional web developer, and a hobbyist visual artist and musician. This is my home page for my art and music. This domain and server were originally registered for a web development class.
All of the code for this site was written from scratch by me, in PHP 7. I did not use any website creation software or content management system of any kind.
These compositions, both audio and visual, are in no way associated with any organization or institution. These opinions, (perceived) commentaries, and works of fiction are not official statements of anyone or anything. These icons, characters, and stories are fictional, and not based on any persons, living or dead. This website is not a resume and it is not a portfolio. Please do not take anything on this website seriously.
There are hardly any pictures of myself on this website, for several reasons.
I am an avid Linux enthusiast. I have been using Linux for many years, and I am more comfortable in the command line than in a graphical interface. I have used Ubuntu, Debian, Raspbian, Arch, Void, Gentoo, and CentOS. I love Vim, I love tiling window managers, and I love Zsh.
What is wrong with you? Why is your art so vulgar and abrasive?
My artwork employs a number of satirical perspectives, for maximum exaggeration effect. These are often misunderstood as my actual opinions on certain topics, but they are simply abstractions. Because of this, my art (and music) have often been censored, rejected, and dismissed. See my "Testimonials" page.
I stick to my initial creative processes despite these drawbacks and consequences.
Why are you so pretentious? Why do you think all of these great bands and movies, are so awful?
Actively listening to a vast array of music for my whole life, I began to develop high standards. I try to critique and review certain artworks based on how developed they are, and how effective they are at communicating emotions and ideas. If something is not very developed, or isn't much past the surface, I give it a low rating. If something is packed with meaning, and substance, and ideas, I give it a high rating.
