profile for Tanner Babcock on Stack Exchange, a network of free, community-driven Q&A sites

I am a self-taught programmer and computer scientist. I work in the languages of C, C++, JavaScript, PHP, Python, and Rust, and I use Void Linux as a daily driver. I am also fluent in Java, HTML/CSS, MySQL, and Bash shell. I'm also an artist, musician, YouTuber, and hiker.

I have been a professional web developer before, and I hope to gain another developer job in the future. I have been making music since 2014. My entire catalog of albums for Erases Eraser, my solo project, as well as my bands Culture Chester and Tantrum Throwers, has been available on streaming services since 2020. You can listen to any of my albums here on my website, and you can download any of them for free, in your choice of FLAC or MP3. If you like my website, or my music, or my YouTube videos, or you appreciate any of the things I've made, please consider making a donation.

About This Website

I created this website in 2017, at age 20, for my Intro to Web Development Class at Des Moines Area Community College. I wrote the majority of the code for it in PHP in early 2017. The codebase has undergone many changes over the years, but many parts are left untouched from 2017. I still maintain this website's code and implement new features often. What I do know about the server my hosting provider provides, is that it runs Rocky Linux and is located in Chicago. This website is now considerably aged, from a different era of the internet, and it has a lot of old relics from my old life. However, as I grow and develop as a person, my website evolves with me. Over the years, I've implemented a RSS feed, a music player, a sitemap, Vue.js components, AJAX requests, Zend OpCache, a user system, a visitors filtering system. TannerBabcock.com covers a much broader spectrum of topics and information than it used to.

As much as I believe in and contribute to open source, I will likely never make the source code for this website public in my lifetime, for many reasons. The code for this website has been highly optimized to make the user's browsing experience fast, reliable, and intuitive. You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate back and forth in the Art, Blog, and Video sections. It is very secure, I've implemented measures against DDOS, SQL injection, and miscellaneous abuse.
